Cosplay Starter Kit Lite: Femme Stuttgart Loki

Don’t I look cool? LOL

Alright so the purpose of this post is to share everything I used to put this cosplay together. Since in the other “Start Kits” I’ve given tons of options, I’m looking at this like a light version of those. Also, I’m adding a few more notes with this one because I’ve actually done all of this. ūüėÄ

First I was doing my own twist on this handsome villain:

boy loki

Loki From the Avengers

I took this and made it work for me. I wanted to do a nice fitted suit with a mermaid skirt. Here’s what I used for the clothes and how much they cost. Your mileage may vary:

Jacket– Thrifted $1 + 2.50 for dry cleaning
Shirt– Thrifted $3 + 2.50 for dry cleaning
Waistcoat – Handmade using this pattern with thrifted fabric $4. I would not recommend this pattern. The sizing was way off and some of the pattern pieces didn’t even fit together.
Skirt– Handmade using this pattern and thrifted fabric $5. I loved this pattern and want to make another skirt using it. I did change it for this just a little. The fabric had some stretch to it so I didn’t need a zipper at all! (I hate putting in zippers!)
Shoes– Thrifted Born flats $6- I got these years ago brand new (heel checks don’t lie) and decided I was kidding everyone if I thought I could spend the day walking in heels. My skirt covered my feet for the most part so I’m calling it good.
Scarf– Thrifted $3

If you can’t tell I really like thrifting. lol But really it’s the only way I can justify spending money on a hobby. Anyone else having that problem?

Anywho, I also spent a lot of time thinking about the beauty aspect of this look and tried to make it fit my style. I think I came up with something I really liked and went with what I was doing. I mean don’t I look so pretty?

Picture thanks to the lovely @venis_envy.

Ok but really I tried to think about what I could do within Loki’s signature color scheme. While I didn’t get a picture of it that day because I win at life, I did snap a photo earlier of what I did for my eyes.

Not too over the top with color while still having it (That totally makes sense right?). So here’s a list of what I used for my face and hair.

Wig- black $10 similar to the one I bought found here.
Lashes– $3 bought from here. I love these for no other reason than it’s great to have a ton of extras while you get the hang of gluing a strip of hair to your eyelids.
Lid colors– Coastal Scents “In the Spotlight” sample I got from my ipsy bag. Colors I used were Dark Goldenrod (This was an amazing gold with a green shift), Dark Golden Olive, and Golden Globe.
LinerEm Walterliner in Emerald City from the lower lashes and Elf liquid liner in black for the top/to hide the lash band.
Brows– I used the black in the “Color Spectrum” palette from Sephora. (It’s out of stock right now).
Lips– Mac’s Russian Red
FoundationESTEE LAUDER Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup in Pebble AND SEPHORA COLLECTION 10 HR Wear Perfection Foundation in shade 22. My face and my neck are two different colors so I have to use the Double Wear in my face and then blend that in to the Sephora one onto my neck.
Blush/Bronzer/highlight- All were from the Solar Palette.

Last up we have my staff. It’s made of PVC pipe, wood glue, paint, a blue LED light, craft foam, foam wire, hot glue and part of a clear soda bottle. I didn’t take pictures while I was making it because I wasn’t 100% sure it’d work out, owever if anyone wants to know how I did things, let me know. I’ll see what I can do.

OK so that’s it! I hope this was helpful and maybe entertaining. Like always if you have any questions let me know and I’ll do my best to answer!

San Diego Comic Con 2014: Friday

My son would love this car!

My son would love this car!

Friday started off not so great. I lost the battle of getting my contacts into my eyes and almost lost the fight with the false lashes I was planning on wearing. I had to totally redo what I’d planned for my face so I got behind. I went as the Glow Cloud from Welcome To Night Vale¬†¬†and I’ll go into more detail on it (and all my other cosplays) in a later post. I had to meet a few friends before their panel and I didn’t want to be late!

The first panel of the day was a fan works panel specific to the fan art and fic in the Teen Wolf fandom. It was an amazing group of people talking about why, how and what they like to create. I may be a little bias bc I know all of these lovely intelligent people. ¬†But whatever. They did a great wonderful job and I am so proud of them!! Don’t take my word on it NPR wrote a little bit about them too!

From there we grabbed lunch and headed into the Assassins Creed panel. I think I was more excited about being in the same room as the AMAZING Aisha Tyler than learning about the new game coming out. I don’t think, I know that’s who I was most excited about. Her love for this series, and really all gaming, is so contagious. Oh yeah, and the new game coming out, set in revolutionary France looks cool too.

I snuck out of “The 100” panel bc I had to meet the awesome creators of Welcome to Night Vale. It was kind of epic. I didn’t realize it was a signing so I had them sign my badge. They were so, so nice and funny. I also snapped a photo with them!

I got back in time to see the last bit of “The 100” but I couldn’t tell you what the show was about. LOL Oops? Then we had Falling Skies which I’ve always been meaning to watch but never really made the time for. Seeing as it’s in its last season I should probably do that, huh? It does feature some of my all time favorite actors so I need to get on it.

The last panel of the night we saw was for one of my FAVORITE new shows: Sleepy Hollow. Oh how I love this show!! I can’t wait for it to start back up in the fall. Tom was charming, Nikki was flawless, Orlando was witty, and the rest of the cast was equally as awesome. The teasers they showed were equal parts funny and suspenseful. ¬†Basically it’s everything I’ve come to love from this show. Seeing as the room was packed I’m not alone in this thinking. (Seriously, if you aren’t watching this show, repent now and start it.)

From there we tried to meet a few friends but ended up calling it a night. I think this made all the difference, really. I got a lot of sleep, which I needed. Sure I didn’t get into everything I wanted but I was able to fully enjoy what I did. I think with few exceptions this will be my plan from now on!

What show are you looking forward to seeing in the fall?

San Diego Comic Con 2014: Preview Night and Thursday

This is made completely out of LEGOS!

This is made completely out of LEGOS!

Hey everyone!!

So, sorry we’ve been MIA a little bit but I was making a made dash to attend SDCC. It was AMAZING! SDCC is my happy place. I’m gonna do a little recap of the days and then posts about each cosplay I did to share the fun with you all!

This year I FINALLY got my hubs to go early to get our badges for Pre-view night. Our wait of usually an hour plus went to almost nothing. We were able to walk right up to our respective lines and get our stuff! I was even able to trade my swag bag with a friend to get the one I really wanted. ADAM WEST IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE MY BATMAN!

From there we ate and then got in line for the floor. I’d never done this before but I think I’ll do it again next year. With the exception of the Funko Booth we were able to get almost everything we wanted to get that night! Huzzah! (Side note: if anyone has a Buffy bobble head from Funko that I don’t have to trade for my first born, let me know.)

During it all I was able to meet up with the lovely Liz and Meg from the Keysmash blog where we made our plans for the next day. ¬†They were super dedicated and camped out for the first bit of the night for ballroom 20. I took the early morning shift and got there around 4 am. Did we need to get there that early to get a close seat? No, not really but you live you learn. The thing about the Ballroom 20 line is it messes with you a little bit. How? Well the line is “Everything but Hall H” until about 6 am. So that means you’re with people trying to get their hands on the exclusives being sold that day, autographs and anything else you need to line up for. It makes the line look long and you don’t really know what the people in front of you are there for.

OK so, from there we made it into the room with ease and scored great seats about 7 rows back. Once we got our seats I took this time to dash to the bathroom and get my cosplay put together. I went from “busted” to Stuttgart!Loki only 30 min. It’s amazing what makeup, contacts, false lashes, spanx, and a wig can do! LOL I was able to get back before the first panel started.¬†¬†I only managed to snap one “good” photo later.

I was basically melting at this point.

First up was 24. I’ve never watched the show but that didn’t stop it from being a really interesting panel! Kiefer Sutherland was very well spoken and really loved his show. It’s great to see that passion. The next one was Under the Dome which was, meh for me save Rachelle Lefevre’s AMAZING Starbuck cosplay. Get it girl.

That was followed by a new pilot screening of a show called Scorpion which looks to be an amazing show. ¬†It’s about a group of actual geniuses who are experts in certain areas and how they partner with the government to keep us all safe without us knowing. It’s based off a real person who was at the panel and it was fascinating to hear him talk. He’s the 4th smartest person in the world and while he was in school he was labeled “slow” bc his mind didn’t work like everyone else’s. He also had a very hard time socially which added to the labeling problem. What I loved most about it was the fact they weren’t making fun of the brainy group (I’m looking at you, Big Bang) or trying to “fix” them.¬†I only hope it’s not on FOX so it will get more than 1 season and we can see it grow!

After that we got to visit Greendale which is always a pleasure. By the end my cheeks hurt from laughing! They are all so smart and funny! I’m super glad we’ll be get another season with them!

Teen Wolf was the last panel I saw for the day and why I got in line so early. I did really enjoy it. I’m totally aware that it’s not a perfect show and that’s OK. It’s trying more than others in many respects. That being said I’m waiting until the end of the season to watch just in case something crazy happens with Danny and he leaves the show forever. I need time to prepare. It looks like a REALLY amazing season and all things considered I’m excited to watch. (This may have something to do with JD saying we haven’t seen the last of Danny but I’m scared about what that means.)

Once TW was done so was my body. I wanted to stay for the last two panels but lol Nope. Waking up at 3:30 am was totally catching up to me. I went back to where I was staying and CRASHED!

I hoped you enjoyed going through the first two days with me!

What panel would you camp out for?

Video of The Week: DIY Lip Color

There are quite a few cosplays that call for a not so common lip color. Those can be pretty hard to find depending on where you live and the time of year. Plus there is the cost, most pigmented “odd” lip colors can be pricey. I don’t mind dropping $15+ on a color I can use for more than one or two cosplays but there are only so many ways to wear green lipstick. ¬† Here is a great option to make a little color while getting the color quality you want!

What color are you gonna make?

Video of the Week: Burn Makeup

This is a great DIY showing¬†one option to get your skin to look like it’s been burned. While I tend to stay in the realm of “pretty cosplay” when I watch it makes me want to branch out and try something new. Maybe I could do a zombie Pinky Pie cosplay in the future… maybe. lol

What costume would  you use this tutorial on?

I put them all on this pinterest board for you to look at. Now, if purple isn’t your thing and you don’t want to drop a lot of money on makeup I’d recommend the E.l.F quad in Party Purple. I bought it and it worked just fine for the price, a whole $2. lol I can post the look I did if people really want to see. But the pin board has a bunch of different options for you. Also the names of the colors I found are in the description of the pin just in case the color doesn’t pop up.

Favorites: March

Steph’s Fave’s:¬†

March has been mostly about starting and trying to catch up to The Arrow, a show on CW that is based of a DC comic. I’d seen a lot of people discussing it and decided to gorge myself on the first season (available on Netflix). I am so hooked. And now I’m trying to get current with season 2, watching as many episodes as I can. I love shows/movies based off comics and I think the CW is doing a great job with it. Doesn’t hurt there’s lots of nearly naked Oliver Queen writhing around in leather pants. I mean..

Also on my list of favorites: makeup. The first, MAC’s Studio Fix compact, is actually a long time favorite of mine. I’ve been using it for years and literally have nothing bad to say about it (my only issue comes when one of my children accidentally drop it and it shatters. But that’s no fault of the product). The reason I’m sharing today is because I’ve noticed as I age, my skin changes. But the way this makeup covers hasn’t. This is important because I’m getting OLD. Ugh. And ties in to my third favorite –

Foundation. I’ve never been a big foundation wearer. Not to brag, but I always had really nice skin and would stick to concealer and powder and be done with it. But, again, my skin is changing. And since tomorrow is a big day for me, I decided to try something that’s geared for an older demographic. Also, I am usually really snobby about my makeup. But I can’t always afford to dish out a small fortune on it. On Pinterest I found some good boards that focused on the best drugstore makeup. Maybelline’s Age Rewind was on there, and for roughly $8 a pop, I figured it couldn’t hurt to try it. I’m really liking the way it blends for me and gives me an overall smooth coverage. Add the Studio Fix on top and it’s perfect.

Mel’s faves:¬†

Hey everyone!

So my faves this month are going to be all about YouTube channels I watched the most this month! I figured it would be more interesting than repeating the same beauty faves from the last two months. (They haven’t changed. lol)

Fist up we have Gossmakeupartist who offers tons of great tips tricks in short to the point videos. One thing I really love about him is he is always so positive with how he talks about all women.  I always feel like I learned something after watching and feel like I can totally rock more looks than I thought I could. You should definitely give him a look.

If you’re in the mood for a laugh Hartbeat¬†will be there for you. She makes smart video’s where she’s not afraid to make fun of herself.¬†¬†She’s just awesome, OK! Trust me. She’s not exactly safe for work sometimes so just keep that in mind when you watch.

And last up we have PTXofficial. I feel like I’m the last person on earth to have heard about this band. They are a group of five vocalist that ARE THE BEST EVER. No seriously. They were the season three winners for the “Sing-Off” and if you watch just one video you can see why. I have literally listened to them every day this month. I can’t get over how talented they all are. I mean just look at the “Say Something” video and look at the emotions they convey. There is a reason their North American tour was sold out.

What were your Fave’s for March?
